Gargano, mountain of the sun

The Gargano is so extraordinary and varied, that it has been considered
worthy of protection; in fact, in recognition of its uniqueness, the beautiful
National Park of Gargano was born. In the National Park of Gargano
we find many different habitats, unique copies in their kind. In this
corner of the Adriatic sea, it is possible to do in a single day an entire
excursus, representative of the whole Mediterranean nature; we can find
within a few kilometres the most different sceneries: dry steppes, thick

forests and woods (Umbra Forest), wonderful islands (the Tremiti Islands),
white calcareous reefs, pinewoods, dunes (Lesina and Varano), marshes
(Frattarolo), clear seas and many more. The Gargano is a jewel of nature;
it’s characterized by a singular vegetation and wildlife. In its territory
(that is 0,7% of the whole national territory), there are 2200 botanic
species (that is 35% of the whole natural flora), and 170 bird species
out of 237 total species living in Italy nest here. The Gargano is a little
microcosm that contains fantastic ecosystems and wonderful views. The

evocative coast of the Gargano is an example of it; its caves digged in
the rock, its coves, its bays, its beaches, its islands in the centre
of a pure sea and many more natural shows deserve to be visited.
